ça c'est pas drôle, c'est juste des pétasses siliconées et lipo-aspirées qui exposent leurs culs refaits en essayant de se faire remarquer le plus possible. Et comme elles doivent être connes comme leurs pieds (manucurés, je parie), elles n'ont que ça à vendre...

I could not agree more with your cinclusoon.If you go to a lecture you will be lectured, it is up to you to try to learn from it!A lecture is a reading, lesson or period of instruction, a discourse or even a formal reproof.Instruction is more to do with ordering or commanding than informing, teaching or directing.The meaning of discourse is slightly more optimistic from the learners point of view. It alludes to conversation and reasoning, but also implies a treatise, speech or sermon.I was a lecturer in the 70 s and 80 s when I considered the word to be an old fashioned term for someone who helps others to learn an attitude I always maintained. Unlike the lecturers you observed, we felt that our students had a right to be taught but we did not have a right to expect them to learn. We just tried to make it such an interesting experience that learning was the inevitable result.Later in the late 80 s, 90 s and into this century I prefered to call mysef a trainer. Someone who helps others by alluring them, drawing them on, peparing or bringing them into a state where they became more able to succeed in a chosen area. This was always a cooperative, interactive process where the student not only listened and viewed but also performed and contributed. We should all learn from each other lecturer and student alike!I have not had a lot of proof that this attitude results in a successful learning outcome, after all students can pass tests and exams without lecturers, but every now and then an ex-student of mine (now usually a design director of a large furniture company) will rush up and give me a hug in the middle of a busy exhibition and explain to my partner how greatful they are that I taught them everything worth knowing! Maybe the lecturer is entitled to a vicarious feeling of achievement!
